The organizer decided to cancel the Wednesday practice sessions allowing more time for them to clean up the track.
The teams finally got the first chance to drive Thursday and the lap time generated by the teams are around 2 to 3 seconds slower than last year's lap time due to the slippery track. The Changan Ford Racing Team now has another factor to consider adding to the Team's primary issue of carrying too much weight for this race. After the success in Zhuhai and Chengdu, Andy Yan, driving car number 3 will be carrying 140Kg weight making his car the heavier car ever in CTCC history and this 1,270 kg total weight is very close to the weight of a fully loaded production Focus.
Official Practice sessions 1 & 2
The Changan Ford Racing Team spent most of the time occupying the top positions of official practice session 1 in the morning. Jiang Tengyi, winner of the Ordos CTCC race in 2010, was the faster among his team mates. Andy Yan, to everyone's expectation, could only manage to stay within 1.5 seconds of Tengyi' time. The punishing sun of Ordos in the afternoon raised the track temperature to close to 42C. The team sent the cars out only making the final adjustment to prepare for the qualifying session which should be under the same weather condition.
Qualifying
The team sent all four cars out immediately hoping to take advantage of a cleaner track generated by a previous supporting race. Rainey He, Jiang Tengyi, and Fan Gaoxiang made full use of the fresh tires and took over the top positions of 1, 2 and 4 immediately. Jim Kato of KIA778 Team occupied the third position ahead of Fan by a slim margin of 0.034'.Rainey He's time of 1' 56.656 equals the best lap time of 2010. As the tire performance started to go down, the lead group basically finished the Q session in that order.
