参加首场比赛的共有19名车手，分别来自中国、中国香港、日本、新加坡、美国、加拿大、法国、意大利等国家和地区。在车迷熟悉的“老面孔”中，有获得上个赛季年度冠军的意大利车手安德烈亚(Andrea Reggiani)和他的老乡蒙特西(Stefano Montesi)，获得“2010大众汽车中国赛车Scirocco Cup年度最佳中国车手”称号的张大胜，上赛季总成绩排在第六位的中国车手尹海涛等。首次参赛的“新面孔”中，有四位从大众polo杯比赛毕业的车手：包金龙、田利英、杨曦和任炜。
本赛季使用的尚酷赛车，相较上个赛季有了一些变化。赛车外观的最大改变是增加了尾翼，对于提高车速和车身稳定性起到良好的辅助作用，赛车的外型也更趋于GT赛车的造型。车身重量减轻了40公斤，最高时速可达250公里。赛车的改变和提升，必然在圈速记录上会有一个新的突破，目前珠海站比赛的最好单圈成绩是1分56秒213，由中国香港车手卢文聪(Joseph Lo)在2010年11月的比赛中做出。赛胎方面，上赛季受到车队、车手首肯的普利司通轮胎POTENZA RE-55S(干胎)和S-001(雨胎)将继续护航新赛季的大众汽车中国赛车Scirocco R-Cup。
根据珠海当地天气预报，预计比赛周以阴雨为主，周六开始天气放晴，高温可达29摄氏度左右。天气历来是珠海站比赛最大的变数，2010赛季Scirocco Cup唯一的一场雨战就发生在珠海赛道。

After two successful seasons in 2009 and 2010, the Volkswagen Scirocco R-Cup China is ready to start the season for 2011 with some major update on the vehicles. The 2011 debut race of Scirocco R-Cup will go to Zhuhai International Circuit (ZIC) on May, 28th-29th.
The first race gathers 19 drivers from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore, USA, Canada, France, Italy etc. Two Italian drivers, Andrea Reggiani (2010 Champion) and Stefano Montesi (2010 2nd runner-up), will continue their outstanding performance in 2011 Scirocco R-Cup China. Chinese young guns Dasheng Zhang (2010 Best Chinese Driver) and Haitao Yin (2010 season 6th) will also appear at 2011 grid for Scirocco R-Cup. As for the “New Faces” the series will see four new graduates from Polo Cup: Jinlong Bao, Liying Tian, Xi Yang and Wei Ren.
2011 season, the Scirocco racing cars will experience some major upgrade. A brand new rear wing will bring a more stable cornering performance and a more obvious GT look to the car. Having 40 KG shaken off the shoulders, the top speed of the car went up to 250 KM/H and that will sure to bring a new record to the lap time (the current Scirocco lap record at ZIC is kept by Hong Kong driver Joseph Lo 1’56”213). Bridgestone Potenza RE-55S (slick) and S-001(wet), the race tire from 2010 season gained good reputation from the drivers, will continue their exquisite service to the series.
The weather in Zhuhai had been one of the vital elements to the races and the weather during the race weekend will be sunny, with the high temperature around 29℃.
