After a fierce 25-minute battle, the first 2 pole-sitter of 2014 Asian Formula Renault Series(AFR) has been decided as ART’’s Pu Jun Jin took pole in R1 and R2.
This year’s qualifying procedure has been overhauled with changes. While the fastest lap time by each driver during the Qualifying session will set the grid for R1, R2’s starting position will be determined by their respective second best timed lap during the session. As the sole qualifying session will determine 2 races’ grid position, all drivers has to push hard during the whole session.
Champ’s Jim KaTo pushes hard early on and took provisional pole, but was quickly overwhelmed by several drivers. Drivers exchanges fastest lap over the session and, finally, Asian Class’s Pu Jun Jin beats all the International drivers by his 1:37.203 lap and take pole for R1. Jim Ka To 2nd with Qin Tianqi 3rd, who’s also second best in Asian Class. Maxx Ebenal from PS Racing and Buzz’s Shimono completed the Top 5, just ahead of KRC’s Wang Yang.
Guillaume Cunnington took 7th and is fastest in Masters Class, while other fellow Masters drivers Thomas Luedi and Jem Chen from Q Team got 11th and 14th respectively. FRD Racing Team’s Sky Ling, meanwhile, took 15th.
For the grid of R2, Pu Jun Jin’s second best lap is enough for him to take pole again, with Jim Ka To alongside him again in the front row. Maxx Ebenal and ShigetomoShimono share 2nd row, ahead of Qin Tianqi and Wang Yang.
R1 and R2 of 2014 AFR will be started on Saturday and Sunday afternoon. Please stay tuned for the action!
