With the racing season in Asia to commence in March 22-23 at Zhuhai International Circuit, Asian Formula Renault Series (AFR) will welcome a host of great drivers from the region to start off the series.
The defending champion, Champ Motorsport, will return with former AFR Champion Jim Ka To. The Hong Kong driver came back to the AFR field in last year’s Finale and scored a win in International Class. He will be aiming to repeat that in the coming races. He will be joined by Chinese Qin Tianqi,and Ray Chan in a strong line-up of Champ. Buzz Racing, which worked with Champ Motorsport in the past few years, will also return with ShigetomoShimono, the driver who won more races than other AFR driver last year, in a pursuit to the Championship.
Former AFR Champion PekkaSarrinen’s PS Racing will have a 7-car line up. Sebastien Mailleux, Guillaume Cunnington and Markus Engel, will join in the Masters Class while Maxx Ebenal, Andrea Reggiani and Abelardo Cuellar is taking on the International Class with PS Racing’s instructor Pete Olson. Chinese Neric Wei will race in Asian Class.
Asia Racing Team (ART) will have veteran Thomas Luedi with youngster Ni Weiliang from Singapore to join the grid with Pu Jun Jin, while Q Team will have Taiwanese movie director Jem Chen will complete the grid. Another Taiwanese team KRC will bring rookie Wang Yang and Yang Fan for their AFR debut. FRD Racing Team will have Sky Ling and Kenneth Lau as their pilot.
